ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Certification and Enterprise Environmental Compliance

ISO 14001 environmental management system certification is not only an entry requirement for green supply chains but also an important tool for enterprises to improve environmental management and prevent environmental risks.

1. Core Certification Requirements

ISO 14001:2015 uses a high-level structure. Core requirements include: understanding the organization and its context, leadership and commitment, planning (environmental aspect identification, compliance obligations, risks and opportunities), support (resources, competence, awareness, communication, documented information), operation (operational planning and control, emergency preparedness and response), performance evaluation, and improvement.

2. Environmental Aspect Identification

Enterprises must systematically identify environmental aspects in activities, products, and services, including wastewater, waste gas, noise, solid waste, hazardous waste, energy consumption, and water consumption. Significant environmental aspects must be evaluated and control measures established. Identification should cover normal, abnormal, and emergency states, as well as past, present, and future timeframes.

3. Compliance Obligation Evaluation

Enterprises must identify applicable laws, regulations, and other requirements for their environmental aspects (e.g., pollutant discharge permits, EIA approvals, emission standards, hazardous waste management regulations) and periodically evaluate compliance. A compliance obligation list is recommended, specifying regulation names, applicable clauses, responsible departments, and evaluation cycles. 4. Alignment with Environmental Regulations

ISO 14001 certification does not replace environmental administrative permits, but system operation helps enterprises meet regulatory requirements. Key alignment areas: construction project EIA and "Three Simultaneities" acceptance, pollutant discharge permit application and execution, standardized hazardous waste management (storage, transfer manifests, disposal), self-monitoring plan execution, and environmental emergency response plan filing. Enterprises should define responsible persons and record requirements for eachaspect within the system.
