Export packaging affects both safe transport and compliance with destination regulations. This article introduces core export packaging standards.
Design packaging based on transport mode (sea, air, express) and product characteristics. Sea freight needs moisture/corrosion protection and stacking strength; air freight needs weight/volume control; fragile items need enhanced cushioning. Conduct drop, stack and vibration tests.
All export wooden packaging (crates, pallets, dunnage) must meet ISPM15, undergo heat treatment (HT) or fumigation (MB), and bear the IPPC mark. Untreated wooden packaging may be detained, returned or destroyed at destination ports.
The EU bans packaging with excessive heavy metals and requires recyclability; some countries restrict straw and natural materials as fillers. Use eco-friendly materials like corrugated cardboard, bubble wrap and EPE foam.
Outer packaging must clearly show shipper/consignee info, gross/net weight, dimensions, carton numbers, destination port; fragile/dangerous goods need international transport marks; some countries require "Made in China" origin labeling. Professional export packaging services are recommended.
